Este CD me caiu em mãos por acaso, e o ouvia ocasionalmente, sem prestar muita atenção nele. Mas aproveitei estas pequenas férias coletivas de final de ano para ouvir alguns CDs com mais atenção, e esse foi um deles.
Minha geração (nasci em 1965) cresceu ouvindo e procurando os LPs e posteriormente os CDs do selo de Manfred Eicher (ECM) ansiosamente nas lojas de discos. Músicos como Jan Garbarek, Gary Burton e Pat Metheny se tornaram nossa referência, e buscávamos ansiosamente todos os seus lançamentos. E tocando com toda essa galera, um nome se destacava, o do baixista alemão Eberhard Weber. Procurei então seus discos solos, e também seu trabalho ao lado de outros músicos geniais. Dono de um estilo único, com um timbre facilmente identificável, ele se destacou principalmente entre os anos 70 e 80. Infelizmente foi acometido por um derrame, o que o afastou dos palcos, mas não da música.
Este CD que ora vos trago foi gravado ao vivo, e tem um timaço de músicos envolvidos, começando pelos citados acima, Burton, Garbarek e Metheny, dentre outros, além da fantástica SWR Big Band, Juntamente com seu amigo, o saxofonista norueguês Jan Garbarek e do guitarrista norte americano Pat Metheny, Weber se aproveitou da tecnologia, criando novas composições a partir de solos seus em trabalhos anteriores. São obras únicas, intimistas, que contam com a altíssima sensibilidade dos músicos envolvidos, Ouçam a incrível ‘Resumé Variations’, que abre o CD, onde Garbarek desfila todo o seu talento e versatilidade, ou então a suíte ‘Hommage’, composta por Pat Metheny, com 31 minutos de duração para entenderem o que digo. O texto de Metheny no encarte do CD também é bem esclarecedor:
“I was asked to participate in a special event to be held in January 2015 to honor Eberhard’s incredible life as a musician. My idea was to try to create something special for this very unique musician. Since Eberhard’s stroke in 2007, he has not been able to play. But I felt that his sonic identity was such a huge component in his work that I wanted to somehow acknowledge it in whatever form I could.
It came to me that it would be interesting to take the idea of sampling one step further; to find video elements of Eberhard improvising and then reorganize, chop, mix and orchestrate elements of those performances to gether into a new composition with a large projection of the Eberhard moments that I chose filling a screen behind us as we performed. It seemed like a new way to compose for me that would almost take the form of visual sampling. Although this seemed like an Eberhard-worthy idea, technically it was quite difficult to do. As it happened, there were only two really usable performances that included long stretches of Eberhard improvising on screen to be found, one from 1986 in Stuttgart and another brief interlude from a Jan Garbarek concert in 1988 in Leverkusen.
The challenges were many, but first and foremost was the issue how to create from scratch an extended piece that would honor Eberhard and also utilize the skills and talents of the commissioning large ensemble, the excellent SWR Big Band.”
Espero que apreciem. Este CD foi a minha trilha sonora de final de ano. E com esta postagem pretendo reiniciar meus trabalhos aqui no PQPBach, depois de alguns meses de ausência, devido a diversos problemas, desde saúde até profissionais. Mas estou acreditando que este novo ano vai me ajudar a superar os desafios que o ano velho trouxe.
