Um dos grandes sonhos e desejos de minha vida era conseguir os songbooks da Ella Fitzgerald. Comecei há alguns anos atrás, uns vinte e cinco, mais ou menos, quando ganhei de um grande amigo uma fita cassete com o Songbook do Cole Porter, talvez o mais conhecido. Foi paixão a primeira audição. Viciei tanto naquela velha fita cassete que ela até arrebentou de tanto que ouvi. Era, e é divina. Já trouxe este CD uma vez, e foi um sucesso, como não poderia deixar de ser. Junte-se à divina voz de Ella Fitzgerald os arranjos da Orquestra de Nelson Ridlle e o resultado não poderia deixar de ser outro: em minha modesta opinião um dos melhores discos de jazz de todos os tempos.
Mas aqui o negócio é outro. Ainda temos a divina Ella e a orquestra de Nelson Riddle mas os compositores são os irmãos Gershwin, outra fascinação minha. Quem não ama e adora suas canções, que não é doido por “Porgy & Bess”, ” ‘S Wonderful’ “, ” The Man I Love”, ainda mais na voz de Ella?
Então preparem-se. São três CDs absolutamente imperdíveis, obrigatórios. Dependendo da demanda, trago outros songbooks.
