Nos comentários do post sobre Rachel Grimes, o leitor Felipe faz menção aos discos da “banda-mãe” Rachel’s, em especial “Music for Egon Schiele”. Sendo esta uma obra tão — TÃO — bela, e dada a dificuldade em se encontrar Rachel’s em boa qualidade na internet (sem pagar), me parece que não, não fica nem um pouco deslocada a postagem da discografia do grupo aqui.

“Music for Egon Schiele” é provavelmente o disco mais indicado aos amantes de música clássica que já postei nesse blog. (Ou ainda: é o mais próximo da música clássica que já me senti.) Procuro ficar de fora dessa área porque, como é sabido entre os leitores mais antigos, este cão, além de mau ouvinte, não entende lhufas do assunto. Mas o review da Amazon me diz que não arrisco tanto assim:

Originally performed as a live accompaniment for a 1995 theater-dance production about the life of painter Egon Schiele, this is the both the exception to the Rachel’s rule and their defining moment. Though they are normally a three-headed, multiperson new-music and classical ensemble centered around Jason Noble, Christian Frederickson, and Rachel Grimes, this suite was written entirely by Grimes and performed by Grimes (on piano), Frederickson (viola), and cellist Wendy Doyle. As always, the music is spellbinding; the fact that this is classical music by –and for– people who grew up on indie rock in no way diminishes it, nor does it make the music too low-brow for those with a classical background. For a more complete picture of what the entire Rachel’s ensemble is capable of, both Handwriting and The Sea and the Bells are recommended. —Randy Silver

Se a resenha acima une bem os três primeiros discos, já “Selenography” e “Systems/Layers” tem maior dose de experimentalismo (não confundir com psicodelia ou bagunça. Os Rachels são tão sérios quanto sensíveis). Meus preferidos são Music for Egon Schiele e Selenography. É música que pode ocupar meu background e me deixar mais criativo, ou que pode ocupar toda minha atenção e me deixar de queixo caído. Acho que vocês, que ainda não conhecem, deveriam tentar. Não garanto seu dinheiro de volta, mas prometo ir direto pro inferno com minhas boas intenções.
