Este é um disco gringo, altamente gringo. É uma bossa nova mais instrumental e jazzística do que a bossa nova realmente foi mas… Achei interessante ouvir a salada de sons de uma época de grande sofisticação harmônica — e notáveis melodias –, mas que eram meio mal gravadas. Sim, sei da “influência do jazz” sobre o samba, mas aqui a tentativa parece ser a de sublinhar o jazz, basta ler a lista dos artistas envolvidos. Sabemos: a bossa nova surgiu no Brasil no final da década de 50, na intimidade dos apartamentos e boates da Zona Sul do Rio de Janeiro — reduto da classe média — estudantes e jovens em geral. É claro que foi mais uma dessas ousadas revoluções que se tornaram clássicas. Em termos musicais, a ela evoluiu no sentido do desenvolvimento da criação melódica, as canções tornaram-se mais difíceis de serem cantadas, pois as complicadas incursões melódicas exigiam um encadeamento harmônico mais evoluído. Além disso a bossa nova trouxe a orquestração econômica, nascidas em apartamentos. Sendo um movimento musical tecnicamente evoluído, a bossa nova não tardou a ultrapassar nossas fronteiras, assimilada rapidamente nos Estados Unidos. Com a vinda ao Brasil de Herbie Mann, Charles Byrd, Stan Getz e Zoot Sims, ela foi logo exportada. Aceita e praticada pelos melhores músicos americanos, entre eles, Frank Sinatra. E aqui temos parte da explicação para esta coletânea de 2006, toda gravada no exterior.

O disco vale por vários registros fantásticos, mas principalmente por Ella Fitzgerald cantando Inútil Paisagem. Aquilo ali é demais prum pobre coração.
