Mais uma Paixão Segundo São Mateus, perguntarão alguns, incrédulos. Sim, mais uma Paixão Segundo Mateus, respondo tranquilamente. Mas não se trata de qualquer Paixão. Temos aqui o maior intérprete de Bach deste século XXI, um cara que vive e respira Bach 24 horas por dia. E esse seu retorno à principal obra do gênio de Leipzig é mais uma prova de que Gardiner é o cara. 2017 foi o ano em que ele encarou novamente o desafio de gravar este monumento da música ocidental, e não gravou apenas esta paixão: ele também encarou novamente a Paixão Segundo João e a Missa em Si Menor, um retorno, após vinte ou trinta anos após suas primeiras incursões neste repertório, no qual, não canso de repetir, é o maior especialista da atualidade. Sugiro fortemente a leitura do booklet que acompanha esta edição absolutamente impecável, com texto em inglês, francês e alemão, e que também traz o texto da obra. Coisa finíssima, altamente recomendada.
Importante salientar que esta gravação está longe de ser considerada unanimidade. Ao contrário, existem críticas bem contudentes, considerando os solistas muito fracos, ou então que não gostaram de algumas escolhas ou a própria releitura do Gardiner. Como somos um espaço democrático, aberto a tudo e todos, deixamos que os senhores decidam se gostam ou não da gravação.
Na verdade, estou fazendo esta postagem por solicitação de nosso Grão Mestre em pessoa, que perguntou se era verdade que o Gardiner havia regravado a obra. Leu a crítica na prestigiosa revista Gramophone, e recorreu aos nobres colegas do PQPBach, questionando se alguém teria tal gravação. Modestamente, respondi que sim, supreso de que ele não soubesse da existência de tal gravação.

Que petardo hein!!
Nao ouvi tudo ainda, entao ainda nao cheguei no portento do ultimo coro. Mas do que ouvi até agora, acredito que seja uma bela gravacao. Ótimo som, se escutam muitos instrumentos que em outras gravacoes ficam meio escondidos, principalmente o fagote do baixo continuo (coisa linda!).
Um ponto negativo, achei o som, em algumas partes, meio seco (o que resulta numa atmosfera bem intimista, mas sem aquela grandiloquencia que as vezes percebemos em outras interpretacoes). Acredito que isso possa ter sido totalmente intencional.
Mas sem duvida, uma gema.
Seria interessante poder comparar essa com a gravacao mais antiga, agradeceria se no futuro puderem re-postar, ja que ainda nao conheco o que dizem ser a melhor gravacao.
Ainda continuo com a primeira gravacao do Herreweghe como a preferida.
Alias, me doi o coracao de pensar nesse nome. Eu cometi um pecado venial a duas semanas. Com o ingresso comprado com seis meses de antecedencia pra ver a Missa de Bach com Herreweghe no comando, devido a compromissos de trabalho, acabei me esquecendo completamente do compromisso, lembrando uma hora antes quando ja nao havia tempo de chegar. Momento de total decepcao e sentimento de oportunidade perdida. Mas, hoje, pra compensar se tudo correr bem, verei e ouvirei a Missa do Beethoven ao vivo pela primeira vez.
