O Convento Ortodoxo Russo-Novodevichy, dedicado ao Ícone Smolensk da Mãe de Deus, foi fundado em 1524. Segundo a UNESCO, Novodevichy é o convento mais conhecido em Moscou e, em 2004, foi declarado Patrimônio da Humanidade pela UNESCO. Esta gravação de 1989 apresenta o coro da Igreja da Dormição do Convento Novodevichy sob a direção de Hegumen Petr Polyakov. O álbum é dedicado ao grande jubileu do Milênio do Batismo da Rússia, que comemorou mil anos de cristianismo na Rússia.
