E, pelas mãos competentes de Robert King e sua turma, voltamos a este belo recanto da música barroca inglesa, que já tínhamos abordado aqui. As canções são muito bonitas, é claro que Blow, o professor de Purcell, era mais grosso que seu leve aluno, mas está muito longe de ser uma vergonha. Neste disco, as vozes estão lindamente combinadas e fazem belos duetos. Só que, há o link acima… Aquele do “aqui“. E ocorre que, há mais de 30 anos, Robert King gravou para a Hyperion um disco com quase o mesmo conteúdo cantado por uma geração anterior de contratenores, James Bowman e Michael Chance. Tudo na gravação mais antiga é mais brilhante, mais vivo, até mesmo as canções mais sóbrias têm expressão mais profunda do que os do novo CD. A propósito: Who did Purcell blow?
