Susato foi certamente um nome mágico em minha adolescência. Ouvir música do Renascimento era moda e, em meio daqueles autores anônimos ou de nomes estranhos, o do flamengo Susato era o que mais se repetia. Comecei a notar aquele autor, mas acho que nunca tinha visto ou procurado um CD com obras exclusivamente dele. A música do Renascimento saiu de moda e ele estava esquecido num canto da memória quando vi este CD dando sopa. O grupo de Philip Pickett torna Susato um tanto “sinfônico”, longe daqueles grupinhos dos anos 70, mas é um excelente disco da música do século XVI. Ele foi compositor e editor em Antuérpia. Ele escreveu (e publicou) vários livros de missas e motetos que seguem o estilo polifônico típico da época. Também escreveu dois livros de canções que foram projetadas especificamente para serem cantadas por cantores jovens e inexperientes. Susato também foi um prolífico compositor de música instrumental, e grande parte dela ainda é gravada e tocada hoje. Ele produziu um livro de música para dança em 1551, Het derde musyck boexken… alderhande danserye , composto de peças em arranjos simples, mas artísticos. A maioria dessas peças são formas de dança (alemandes , galliards e assim por diante). Adivinhe o que você ouvirá!
