    ps: p.q.p. é puta que o pariu!!!????

    abraços

  2. With these six compositions Bartok established himself in the pantheon of the greatest composers of string quartets. Hence, they are among the fundamental masterworks of that form. Each one is striking different from its fellows in many important respects, beginning with a late Romantic lyricism in the First and Second, to the concise and dissonant Third, and the equally radical but more athletic Fourth. The Fifth reflects a period when Bartok was consolidating his great adventures in developing new harmonic and melodic devices into a more audience-pleasing mode, and the Sixth is warmly lyrical and elegiac, without turning its back on Bartok’s modern vocabulary. Among the way are some of the most dazzling “special effects” that four string players can create; altogether the six quartets comprise a virtually complete glossary of what is possible to do on the strings. Masterpieces with real depth, it is virtually impossible to really listen to these quartets without finding something new and amazing each time. (Joseph Stevenson)

The six quartets of Bartók have been well represented on record. The choice on Compact Disc, however, is an easy one, for the Emerson Quartet not only plays the music better than any other ensemble, but gets all six essays onto two discs. Making roses out of what must seem more like a collection of thistles to most others who attempt to play the set, the Emerson players show the kind of ensemble polish that caused one European critic to complain, “too smooth…. I like my Bartók rougher.” But awkwardness and rhythmic uncertainty, which have made many a lesser group sound rough in this music, should not be confused with expressive edge, which the Emersons bring to the music in full measure. Their readings are extraordinarily revealing, high-intensity, not at all for the faint of heart. With the odd-numbered quartets on one disc and the even on the other, each CD is a “microcosmos” of the whole set. The sound quality is excellent throughout. (Ted Libbey)

  6. hi,
this is what wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gy%C3%B6rgy_Ligeti] says concerning the etudes:

Études pour piano, Book 1, six etudes (1985)
Études pour piano, Book 2, eight etudes (1988-94)
    Études pour piano, Book 3, four etudes (1995–2001) = 18 etudes…
it’s some kind of jinxed that you never can find the No. 18!
    many greetings
    Berni (Graz, Austria)
