“Oratório Messiah, HWV 56, de George Frideric Handel, versão 1754 do Foundling Hospital, que apresenta cinco solistas: dois sopranos (Sandrine Piau, Katherine Watson), contralto (Anthea Pichanick), tenor (Rupert Charlesworth) e baixo-barítono (Andreas Wolf), gravado em 20 a 22 de dezembro de 2016, publicado em 6 de outubro de 2017, com Le Concert Spirituel, choir & orchestra e Hervé Niquet, maestro.

 

Depoimento de Hervé Niquet: Por que mais um Messiah? Examinei as diferentes partituras existentes e decidi pela versão muito interessante de 1754, que apresenta cinco solistas. Vocês devem se lembrar que, quando Handel chegou a um lugar para realizar seu oratório, ele tinha solistas de diferentes padrões à sua disposição. Então ele rapidamente revisou sua pontuação de acordo …

Tudo isso está diretamente relacionado à realidade da situação de Handel como promotor de concertos. Naqueles dias, para ganhar a vida com sua música, um compositor precisava absolutamente executar suas obras e lucrar à noite. A idéia de não retocar um trabalho para evitar “estragar” ou “distorcer” é muito mais moderna. Deve haver cerca de uma dúzia de versões do Messias (não listarei todas). A versão de 1754 raramente é tocada porque exige cinco solistas: dois sopranos, alto, tenor e baixo … optei aqui por uma interpretação operística, seguindo a sugestão do drama inerente a esse relato da vida de Cristo.
