Giovanni Stefano Carbonelli (1690? – 1772) – Sonates pour violin et basse continue

(Ouvi este CD apenas uma vez.) Os discos da Alpha, vocês sabem, são quase sempre espetaculares. E eles matam a pau novamente com este desconhecido Carbonelli, do qual pouco se sabe mas que pode nos dar uma hora de esplêndida música. São várias peças escritas para instrumentos variados, havendo até coisas para um tipo qualquer de “guitar” e órgão. A última obra do disco é a melhor. Enjoy!

Algumas poucas coisinhas sobre o compositor: In 1719, young Giovanni Stefano Carbonelli arrived in London from Rome, where he was active, invited by the Duke of Rutland to enter his service. So little is known about Carbonelli’s life that we just have to make do with what we can imagine from his music and from the musical context in England at that time. He was probably born during the last decade of the seventeenth century. We know that he studied with Corelli and that like his most famous fellow students, Pietro Castrucci and Francesco Geminiani, he felt deawn to London and settled there. London at that time was astir with the resounding successes of Handel’s operas and boasted the very best of European misicians.
