Um bom disco. Notáveis intérpretes, excelente gravação, textos mais ou menos e música apenas razoável. É música menor da época de Haydn e Mozart, é decididamente conservadora e provinciana, parecendo ser bem mais antiga do que é. O jovem Linley conheceu e tocou com o jovem Mozart — exatamente da mesma idade — em Florença no ano de 1770. Ele era tecnicamente um compositor razoavelmente talentoso. Esta é uma música, digamos, profissional, que se divide em duas partes. Composta em 1776, seu título completo é “Uma Ode Lírica sobre as Fadas, Seres Aéreos e Bruxas de Shakespeare”. Musicalmente, ele se sai um pouco melhor nas fadas e nos seres aéreos do que nas bruxas, pois os toques sinistros, tons menores, uníssonos e cromatismos capturam um mundo mais ‘gótico’ do que o verdadeiramente sombrio de Shakespeare. O destaque do CD é Julia Gooding, cuja voz tem a habilidade de flutuar a frase, o que muitas das melodias de Linley pedem. Música agradável e despretensiosa: um disco que vale a pena experimentar.
